For this project I had to design and code the event homepage for the 5th annual Japan Junior Programming Challenge. This is an event in which elementary and junior high school students from all over Japan present their computer programming creations (games, robots, etc.) and are judged on creativity, expressiveness, and techincal skill.

Based on the robot character asset provided by the client, I created a logo and visual language that feature programming-inspired motifs while being fun and friendly. I borrowed and altered the original robot character asset to create original illustrations to illustrate key concepts of the event. I incorporated the photographic image of a junior high school girl working on a computer and blended it in with the illustrated elements to express the feeling of being absorbed in the excitement of creating something through computer programming. <3

About

Dylan Burns

Hello! I'm Dylan, and I make cute things for cute people*. I've been designing and developing websites, games, and other fun things on the computer since I was little. I love all things digital and paper, and I love combining the two to create new and interesting experiences. I earned my degree in Web and Multimedia Environments at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I am currently based in Tokyo.

*"Cute people" are people who like to play - to use their imagination, to try new things, and to get a little silly. Cute is a state of mind that anybody can embrace if they choose to.
